Track Chimpanzees & Gorillas in Uganda

Venture through the jungle & rainforest of 2 national parks to track amazing primates — including rare & elusive mountain gorillas — on this special adults-only Platinum DreamTrip.

About Your Trip

If gorilla trekking isn’t on your bucket list, now’s the time to add it — can you imagine getting up close to these magnificent animals in a UNESCO-protected jungle? With this exciting adults-only Platinum DreamTrip in Western Uganda, you’ll be treated to exactly that — a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to observe a variety of primates in their natural setting! Some are rare, like the L’Hoest’s monkey, and some are endangered, like the mountain gorilla, but all are sure to inspire the amazing stories you’ll tell your friends.

Your adventure begins in Kibale Forest National Park, known as one of the best places on the planet to view mammals such as chimpanzees, monkeys and baboons. Trek through this lush tropical forest to a spot where you can safely observe their daily activities — you’ll notice that some chimps are quite active, swinging in trees, while others like to sit and play peacefully.

Then, in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, get ready for a possible close encounter with the majestic mountain gorilla, a critically endangered species. You’ll venture through dense rainforest in search of these outstanding creatures, then, if spotted, you’ll have plenty of time to appreciate them from a safe distance. You may see them by themselves or with their families, eating leaves or lounging about. Just don’t forget your camera — you’ll want to capture every moment! Be sure to keep an eye out for other occupants of this biodiverse setting that’s also home to forest birds, butterflies, frogs, monkeys and elephants.

What we love:
• While chimps are the main attraction of Kibale Forest National Park, they share the park with black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, olive baboons and many more species.
• Your jungle adventure also includes a guided walk in Magombe Swamp of Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary — watch for wildlife including the great blue turaco, papyrus gonolek and grey-cheeked mangabey.
• A notable UNESCO World Heritage site, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park contains half of the world’s mountain gorillas as well as an exceptional diversity of plants and wildlife.
• Your lodges are eco-friendly in design, with chalets built from sustainable local materials, meals prepared with locally grown products and lights powered by solar energy.

Destination

Winston Churchill described Uganda as the “Pearl of Africa” in his 1908 book “My African Journey.” Located in Eastern Africa at the equator, Uganda welcomes a variety of visitors, especially nature enthusiasts fascinated by the country’s incredibly rich biodiversity of animals and plants — from blue monkeys and long-eared owls to the lemon grasses that grow on the savannas. Western Uganda’s vast Kibale Forest National Park boasts a particularly large concentration of wildlife. Living amid its swamps, lush forest floor and old-growth trees are 13 species of primates, 375 species of birds, 70 species of mammals and much more. Farther south, near the border with Rwanda, you’ll find Kisoro, a very small town with a market, mosque and shops on the main street. As the gateway to exploring the renowned Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kisoro hosts visitors from all over the world.
